Scissor Sisters on tour in North America

Disco, glam rock, club scene band Scissor Sisters has decided to announce a North America leg to their world tour – this coming after the release of their new album “Night Work.”  While their popularity in the states is moderate at best, they have achieved major success in Europe, Canada, Australia, and particularly the United Kingdom where they have achieved a number of chart hits, with their debut album becoming the best-selling album of 2004 in the UK.  Their single “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin” was the fourth best-selling single in the UK in 2006 and stayed in the UK top 40 for 27 weeks.

The lyrics of their songs, largely written by members Shears and Babydaddy, are known for their mixture of wit and tragedy. The songs on their debut album dealt with a number of subjects and issues in a variety of styles, from drug abuse within the gay community (“Return To Oz”) to Shears’ deep platonic love for his best friend in real life, Mary who died in April of 2006.  While some members of the band are gay, they don’t necessarily consider themselves a gay band.  In an interview featured on the We Are Scissor Sisters… And So Are You DVD, Jake states, “The fact that some of us are gay affects our music the same amount as it does that some of the members of Blondie are straight”.

Look for Scissor Sisters as they start their North America tour in Atlanta on August 21st, New York City August 24th and and a night at Los Angeles’ historic Hollywood Palladium on September 11th.  Entertainment Weekly had this to say about their latest album “Night Work” – which they gave an A-: “‘New York’s disco-new wave party people are in freak mode on their third disc Night Work, dropping crass come-ons and slutty entendres like parade confetti (gay, straight, you name it).”  Be sure to check it out!!

  2. Steven,

Coming out is personal and takes time. Don’t rush it and don’t do before you are ready. Take the time to know yourself and who you are, develop your own personality and characteristics that define you – be comfortable with yourself. Once you clear that hurdle, than the take the small steps to telling others around you. There is no hurry and there is no easy answer to this question but there is a lot of support out there for you.

    Good luck!!
